'It is the society's policy to help where financial hardship is evident. If the applicant is likely to be employed or re-employed then interest-free loans may be given rather than grants. The award of a loan or grant is usually made to an applicant who is attempting to improve his careet prospects, or who has to change his career due to unforeseen circumstances.' In addition, the society offers a scholarship scheme for seafarers or prospective seafarers.
